Climate-Proofing Infrastructure Could Save Canadians Billions, Report Says

A new report from the Canadian Climate Institute warns that Canada must invest more in climate-resilient infrastructure to reduce the rising costs of severe weather. The study finds that investing about $4 billion annually in proactive adaptation, such as strengthening infrastructure against extreme heat and heavier rainfall, could prevent much of the damage linked to climate change. Inaction however, could leave taxpayers facing billions in repair costs. The report highlights how early investments in resilience can protect communities while lowering long-term infrastructure and insurance pressures nationwide.
